            WINDOWS 8 EDITONS

Windows 8 (For the Consumer)
This is the consumer version of Windows 8 that excludes a lot of the business-type features like drive encryption, group policy and virtualization. However, you will have access to the Windows Store, Live Tiles, Remote Desktop Client, VPN Client and other features.

Windows 8 Pro (For Enthusiasts  &Professionals/Businesses)
Pro is the edition of Windows 8 for the PC enthusiast and business/technical professionals.
It includes everything found in 8 plus features like BitLocker encryption, PC virtualization, domain connectivity and PC management. Definitely geared towards corporate environments.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows 8 Enterprise (The Enterprise)
Includes all that Windows 8 Pro has, but geared towards enterprise customers with Software Assurance agreements.
Windows 8 RT (ARM or WOA)
RT (Windows Runtime AKA WinRT) is the newest addition to the list of Windows editions. It is specifically designed for ARM-based devices like tablets, ARM-powered PCs and any other devices that support the ARM architecture and are designed to run Windows 8 RT.
The operating system will be pre-loaded much like a tablet running Android or iOS ships with the operating system preinstalled and configured. It also means that you will probably not be able to load RT onto any tablet or device.
The nice thing about Windows RT is that it offers device-level encryption and the touch-based Office suite as part of the operating system, so you won't have to go buy a copy of Office or worry about data exposure.

Native USB Support

In the meantime, USB 3.0 will offer 10 times faster than USB 2.0 and much better power management.

Released in January 1996, USB 1 specified data rates of 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Bandwidth) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Bandwidth). It did not allow for extension cables or pass-through monitors (due to timing and power limitations).

USB 2.0: Released in April 2000. Added higher maximum signaling rate of 480 Mbit/s (effective throughput up to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s) (now called "Hi-Speed"). USB 2 is usually colored black.

USB 3.0 was released in November 2008. The standard defines a new "SuperSpeed" mode with a signalling speed of 5 Gbit/s and a usable data rate of up to 4 Gbit/s. USB 3 is usually colored blue. USB 3.0 reduces the time required for data transmission, thereby reducing power consumption, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

Still supporting USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 devices.

 Other Features

Supporting for mounting VHD and ISO disc images-

Windows Explorer allows users to select an ISO image and access its contents via a drive letter.
Constantly create a virtual CDROM or DVD drive and assign it to the next available drive letter to the new removable drive.

Faster boot time-

Need only 30-35 seconds to boot the system by hibernating the kernel session instead of shutting it down

Multiple Monitors Support-

Microsoft announced that customer can use more than one monitor to connect windows 8 OS.
customers can also choose taskbar on both screens with different icons on each Monitor.

Internet Explorer 10-

Internet Explorer 10 provides one web platform that supports two browsing experiences: Internet explorer in the new Windows UI that is optimized for touch devices, and the familiar browsing experience of Internet Explorer for the desktop.

      Critics & Effects

—The first thing any Windows user will notice is that the Start Button has been removed. The Start Menu too has been removed, and replaced with instead the Start Screen, which is the first thing you see when you log in to Windows.
—Windows Gadget Platform is intact but no gadgets to download as the online Gadget Gallery was killed for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users as well.
—Previous Versions for Shadow Copies is removed. The half-baked replacement is the File History feature which is only for certain file types (documents, music, videos and pictures) in Libraries, desktop and browser favorites.

—Device Manager no longer shows Non-Plug and Play Drivers/hidden devices.—
—Mouse and keyboard are practically useless beyond pointing, clicking and typing.
—Built-in (Microsoft provided) DVD playback in Windows Media Player will not be available on the Windows 8 platform even with addition of the Media Center Pack
